Third Grade

Apex for Youth

This year-long Saturday program offers academic support, test preparation, and/or basketball lessons for students in grades 3-5.  Apex and Reading Empowers offers students in grades 1, 2, and 3 academic support through read aloud and book activities.

My Own Book Fund

This program works in collaboration with Barnes & Noble bookseller to help get books in the hands of children. The third graders have the opportunity to take a class trip to a Barnes & Noble store to select and bring home books of their own choosing. Students then make a return visit where they talk about the books they have read.

National Dance Institute (NDI)

This program provides 3rd grade students with weekly dance classes where students focus their dancing and singing around a theme. The program has a mid-year performance in December and an end of the year performance in May/June.

New York City Football Club (Soccer)

Coaches work with students to practice soccer drills, learn about sportsmanship behavior, and discuss healthy food choices to support an active lifestyle.

P.S. 1 Service Team

This program provides students in grades 1-5 with a community service project, such as a coat drive or canned food drive. The donations support causes such as hurricane relief, support for soldiers, and families who need additional support. We have partnered with New York Cares.

Rising New York Road Runners

This program provides students in grades Pre-K to 5 with opportunities to engage in physical activity as well as learn about healthy eating habits during the school day.

Spoons Across America

Students in grades 1-5 learn about healthy eating and nutrition.  Each grade focuses on a different aspect of healthy eating and nutrition. The Take a Taste program offers third grade students the opportunity to eat healthy, local, and fresh foods. Students sample locally grown seasonal produce and receive a recipe to take home to share with their families.
