Latenesses and Absences

Students need to be on time for school in order to benefit fully from the day’s learning and activities. Students not present at the start of the day and on the class line, will be marked late. Excessive latenesses and absences will seriously affect a student’s learning progress and possible promotion to the next grade. An Attendance Officer from the DOE is in charge of contacting the family if latenesses and absences are excessive.

For 4th and 5th graders in particular, attendance is a major factor in middle school acceptance decisions.

If students are absent because of an illness, a doctor’s note should be provided to the teacher for documentation. If the absence is longer than three days, please call the Main Office at 212-267-4133 to inform the school.
